Bafta is hosting its annual Young Game Designers competition for participants aged 10-18. Applications are open until March 12 at 5 pm. The competition has two categories: the Game Concept Award and the Game Making Award.

The competition is divided into two age groups within both categories, with participants aged 10-14 competing against each other, while those aged 15-18 are in a separate bracket.

What is BAFTA’s Young Game Designers and who is it for?

Here are the general guidelines set by Bafta for the Young Game Designers competition:  

  • Game Concept
    • Pitch game concepts to Bafta with some accompanying art, gameplay ideas, diagrams, and or level designs.
    • For those not confident in art, Bafta recommends creating a map or level design, diagram, or chart. 
  • Game Making
    • Submit a working prototype of the game, with at least one playable level. 
  • All games must be suitable for players under the age of 16 (PEGI 12 rating or less).
    • No gore, blood, or violence. 
  • All participants under the age of 18 are required to sign parental consent forms.
