Payday 3 Development Studio Calls Year “Successful” Despite Declining Net Sales

|
- Net sales for 2024 were around 70% lower than 2023’s.
- Payday 3 sales are not reaching Starbreeze’s expectations.
- Starbreeze’s CEO remains hopeful for the future.
Starbreeze reported net sales of Swedish Krona (SEK) 185.9 million for 2024, marking a steep 70% decline from the SEK 633.5 million recorded in 2023. These figures were presented in the company’s latest public year-end report.
The majority of its revenue in both years stemmed from the Payday franchise, including Payday 3 which launched last year. Payday 3 made SEK 82.9 million in 2024, a fraction of the SEK 477 million the game made in 2023.
A look back at 2022 indicates that Starbreeze reported net sales of SEK 127.6 million that year. This figure excludes revenue from Payday 3, which was released in September 2023.
In the year-end report for 2024, Mats Jun, acting CEO of Starbreeze, shares reassuring words for the studios’ future:
“2024 has been an intense but in many ways also successful year for Starbreeze.
“We have continued to strengthen the PAYDAY brand through collaborations and enhancements, while making great progress with Project Baxter and establishing a strong foundation for our third-party publishing.”
Starbreeze has partnered with PlayStation Plus for February, making Payday 3 available to all subscribers—a move aimed at attracting new players to the game.
The Payday franchise remains Starbreeze’s most valuable asset, forming the foundation of its operations. Payday 3, a cooperative first-person shooter centered on heist planning, received its latest update on February 3 and is set to receive ongoing support through 2025.
