Epic Games has taken legal action against competitive Fortnite player RepulseGod. The player admitted to account sharing in order to unfairly qualify for the 2023 Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS), a violation confirmed by both Epic Games and RepulseGod.The player has since been banned from all competitive Fortnite Games.
As if to make an example of the cheater, Epic Games forced the player to create an apology video.
In the video, RepulseGod does not show his face or even talk on screen. Instead, he simply puts text on the screen admitting to his actions, clarifying his deserved punishments.
“I shared my Epic Games account with another user, Forbes, to qualify for the 2023 Fortnite Championship Series Grand Finals. My actions violated Epics rules and I was disqualified from the tournament,” he admits.
“Epic took legal action against me and now I’m banned from participating in Fortnite tournaments forever. I also have to pay a monetary settlement, which includes the prize money I received but did not win fairly, which Epic will donate to charity.”
The FNCS 2023 tournament had a prize pool of $4 million, and was the biggest Fortnite tournament of the year. Repulsegod’s required payment as a result of the lawsuit is not readily available – but Eurogamer estimates it to be a couple thousand USD.
According to Liquipedia, Australian player Morgan ‘RepulseGod’ Bamford shared his Fortnite account with Forbes, a former competitive player who is now banned. All the results for Repulsegod in 2023 were supposedly from Forbes playing on their account – Forbes even secured victory in the FNCS 2023 Major 3: Oceania Grand Finals.
