Phil Spencer has said that they’ve stopped trying to get gamers to play on Xbox and that the company is more focused on trying to let players play on their platform of choice.

In an interview in XboxEra, Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, answered some questions regarding the future of Xbox. One of the questions was about how Sony used some of the percentages that they earned releasing Xbox games on PlayStation which was used to “reduce” Xbox’s standing in the market. This question was followed up by talks regarding the console war.

Spencer answered they are not trying to move players from other platforms anymore. According to him, he wants players to have a choice in where they play their games. Earlier in the interview, Spencer acknowledged that the industry is having a hard time finding growth and that the costs of making games is growing. “Restricting where those games can be played, is not helping the games themselves.”

Spencer has also acknowledged that there are concerns regarding the Xbox hardware, whether they’re still going to make one or whether they’re going to be just like SEGA that’s only going to produce games. However, he has not provided a clear answer in the interview.

Previously, Spencer has mentioned that the Nintendo Switch 2 is going to be a major partner of Xbox. According to him, games like the Microsoft Flight Simulator and Halo: The Master Chief Collection have a chance to be released on the Switch 2. Shawn Layden, former PlayStation CEO mentioned that a strategy like this might weaken their console sales.
