Key points
  1. Hurt is the first Japanese Smash Player to win a Genesis title in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
  2. Hurt was undefeated in the top 8 of the tournament. He never dropped a single game.
  3. Acola, the previous best player in the world, got second place.

Hurt, a Snake player from Japan, has been crowned as the winner of Smash Ultimate Genesis X2 over fellow Japanese player Mashita “acola” Hayato, the former best player in the world. He took the win with a quick 3-0, not even giving acola a chance to fight back.

Hurt maintained a perfect record at the top 8 of this tournament, never losing a single game throughout the day. His games with acola have been dominant, showing his mastery of the match up. This win from Hurt is historic, as previous Genesis Smash Ultimate winners were all from North America.

Acola seems lost whenever he played against Hurt, which is a stark contrast to his other matches which ended up in a 3-0 as well. The previous Genesis titleholder was also in the venue. Salvatore “Zomba” DeSana entered top 8 from the loser’s side and got third place, after being beaten by acola.

Genesis is considered to be one of the most prestigious Smash tournaments in the world. The tournament attracts talents from across the world with players coming over from Europe, such as Adam “Luugi” Jassim from the United Kingdom and William “Glutonny” Belaid. Luugi was in the top 8 and finished fifth, while Glutonny narrowly missed the opportunity and finished ninth.

Hurt has already shown his prowess to the whole world when he won Battle of BC 6 in March 2024. In there, he beat a couple of North American top players including Edgar “Sparg0” Valdez and Michael “Riddles” Kim on his way to take the whole tournament.
