Spider-Man 2 Patch Fixes Crashes and Stability Issues

Nixxes Software released an update for Spider-Man 2 on February 13, addressing widespread criticism over the PC version’s poor optimization and technical issues at launch. According to the patch notes, the update includes multiple crash fixes and stability improvements based on player reports and internal data.

One of the major issues involved frequent crashes on AMD Radeon GPUs, which developers linked to initialization problems with the game’s Anti-Lag 2 SDK. Nixxes explained that the initialization process occurred even when the feature was disabled. While AMD is working on a driver update, the studio has temporarily removed Anti-Lag 2 from the game to improve stability for affected players.

• Fixed a bug that could cause character eyes to appear darkened or flickering.
• Nintendo Switch Pro controllers can now be used with Steam Input.
• Resolved a New Game+ bug that stopped the prompt to pick up the Sleeping Dart in ‘The Flames Have Been Lit’ from working when using mouse and keyboard.
• NVIDIA DLSS Ray Reconstruction can now be used at Native resolution and with Ultra Performance upscaling.
• Fixed a bug that caused issues with XeGTAO when disabling Anti-Aliasing or enabling Ray Reconstruction.
• Resolved a timing related bug that could cause the player to be positioned lower to the ground than intended during the Wind Tunnel tutorial.
• Various user interface related bug fixes.
• Various visual bug fixes.

Nixxes Software shared a troubleshooting guide catered towards providing workarounds for commonly reported issues. They also suggested contacting Nixxes’ customer support for players encountering any issues after the patch update. 

Spider-Man 2 was greeted on Steam with Mixed Reviews, with players citing poor optimization and frequent crashes.  

The game originally launched on PlayStation 5 in October of 2023. A sequel to both the original Spider-Man and Miles Morales, the PlayStation 5 version sold over 11 million copies, and won in multiple categories at the D.I.C.E. Awards, including Action Game of the Year, Technical Achievement, Audio Design, Best Character, Achievement in Animation and Original Music Composition.
