Final Fantasy Mobile Game Shut Down After Microtransactions Break

|
- Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition for iOs was shut down.
- Square made the decision after microtransactions broke.
- The game is still available on other platforms, but no longer in the apple store.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles for iOs was killed by Square Enix – a decision prompted by the breaking of in-game microtransactions. Players reported being locked out of purchased content, including DLC, leaving them unable to access the full game.
Rather than fixing the issue, Square Enix looked at their monetization system and decided: “we are unable to completely fix the bug and implement the new changes, making it unlikely to resume service for the game. Thus, we must regretfully announce that we will end support for the iOS version of FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES.”
Refunds will be handed out to players who made in-app purchases from January 2024 and beyond. To request a refund, Square Enix suggests players “contact Apple Support and request a refund from them. If you have any questions or issues regarding this process, please contact our support center linked below by August 31, 2025.”

The Crystal Chronicles series was a spinoff for Final Fantasy that was initially released in 2003. It gained popularity largely thanks to its co-op features – allowing players to explore the world of Final Fantasy together while facing real-time combat.
Square Enix remastered the original and rereleased it across various platforms. Though the iOS version was shut down, Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is still available to play on Android, PS4, and Nintendo Switch, but its original multiplayer features lack many quality of life features that have become standardized in the industry.
