Neowiz has officially revealed Lies of P: Overture, the first expansion for its acclaimed soulslike action RPG, during the February 2025 State of Play presentation. Scheduled for release in Summer 2025, the DLC serves as a prequel to the main game, and takes place during the early days of the Puppet Frenzy and the events leading up to Lies of P. This DLC requires the base game to play.
The gameplay trailer showcases a snow-covered environment, contrasting the darker, industrial aesthetic of the base game. The protagonist, Pinocchio, is seen wearing a winter coat as he explores the frozen city. The expansion introduces new armaments, weapon combinations, and Legion Arms, giving players an expanded arsenal. A notable addition is the inclusion of screen-clearing ultimate abilities, which allow Pinocchio to stagger bosses in combat.
Released in September 2023, Lies of P quickly became one of the most successful soulslike titles produced not by the creators of the genre, FromSoftware studios. The game was praised for its deep combat mechanics, intricate level design, and unique reimagining of Pinocchio within a dark, Belle Époque-inspired world. The game was a commercial success, selling over 1 million copies within its first month (despite being available for free for Game Pass subscribers) and securing a Metacritic score averaging in the mid-80s across all platforms. The game went on to receive multiple award nominations.
