Borderlands 4 release date: Sept. 23, 2025, was revealed during Sony State of Play on Feb. 12, 2025; the new part of the series first-person shooter video game is developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K. The new franchise title is set to be released on PlayStation 5, Windows, and the Xbox Series X and Series S.

Like its predecessors, the game is a first-person looter shooter with action role-playing game elements. Gearbox has described the world as “seamless,” meaning there will be no loading screens as players move between areas. The developer promises new vehicles and traversal tools, including a grappling hook. The game offers two gameplay modes: solo or a coop with up to three other players to team up.

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford claimed that Borderlands 4 was “the most open and free” game in the franchise, contrasting Borderlands 3’s planet-hopping structure, which resulted in a more “compartmentalized” design. ”Everything is explorable and reachable,” Pitchford said.
