A group of five Pokémon Go players engaged in battle against the Legendary Moltres on the Allegiant Stadium during the match between Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs on Super Bowl LVIII on Feb. 9, 2025.

Between the first and second quarters of the American football match at the Super Bowl stadium five trainers teamed up and challenged the fiery bird. Despite being strangers, and likely supporters of different teams, they united in a shared goal of capturing the powerful Pokémon.

A player, known on Reddit as u/NiceBorder1111111111, detailed the event in a post, sharing how they joined forces with four other trainers. “I was surprised that we got enough people playing the game in here,” said the player. “I also [played] during the [community] day time period and got a few shinies and did my snapshots.”

The raid wasn’t an easy feat, with the group managing to defeat Moltres with just two Pokémon remaining. “It was close at the end,” u/NiceBorder1111111111 explained, attaching an AR photo of their newly caught Moltres on the field.

Moltres is a Fire/Flying-type Legendary Pokémon, first introduced in Generation 1. Known as the “Flame Pokémon,” it stands at 2.0 meters tall and weighs 60 kg. It has an impressive base stat total of 580, with high Special Attack (125) and Attack (100) stats, making it a powerful offensive force. Moltres does not evolve and can be caught in-game through challenging encounters, typically requiring special methods or locations like the Pokémon FireRed/LeafGreen versions or special events.
