Key points

  1. Civilization VII has already been data mined before its official release.
  2. Data mine includes leaders, civilizations, and a fourth age.
  3. It’s unclear if these are cut content or future content.

Reddit users have begun datamining Civilization VII ahead of its full release, uncovering unused assets and hints of a possible fourth age. Despite the game not yet being available on all platforms, players have already started digging through its files for gold, something they might’ve already stumbled upon.

Civilization VII allows players to play the game early if they’ve purchased a Deluxe or Founder’s Edition of the game. Because of this, players with data mining intentions are also given early access to the game. According to a post on Reddit, Civilization VII devs already have the next content in their mind.

The leaks said that several Civilizations not included in the game were found in the game’s files:

  • Ottomans
  • Maori
  • Tonga
  • Pirate Republic
  • Ireland

Along with this, some new Leaders were also found:

  • Edward Teach
  • Sayyida al-Hurra
  • Whina Cooper

Interestingly, two of these leaders are pirates. Edward Teach is the legendary Black Beard while Sayyida al-Hurra was a well-respected pirate during her time. She earned the title “Queen” due to the power she had over the Mediterranean Sea. Essentially, she’s the Pirate Queen of the Mediterranean. Not to mention, there’s also the Pirate Republic Civilization included in the data mine.

Another interesting thing that got mined was the existence of a fourth age. Civilization VII currently has three ages: The Antiquity Age, the Exploration Age, and the Modern Age. This mine seems to want to add a fourth one called the Atomic Age. It’s unclear whether these were cut content or future content.

Civilization VII is slated to release on February 11, 2025, on PC, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 and 5. Metacritic has given the game a score of 81/100 which is generally favorable.
