- Take-Two Interactive has reported Q3 FY2025 results, marking a 3% increase over the previous year.
- Grand Theft Auto 5 has now sold over 210 million copies in total.
- Take-Two 2025 release schedule includes Mafia: The Old Country in the summer and Grand Theft Auto 6 in the fall.
Take-Two Interactive has reported financial results for the third quarter of fiscal year 2025, with net bookings of $1.37 billion for the quarter ending Dec. 31, 2024, marking a 3% increase over the previous year.
This performance aligns with Take-Two’s expectations, reinforcing its projections for a strong finish to the fiscal year, with full-year net bookings anticipated to reach between $5.55 billion and $5.65 billion.
The quarter’s performance was bolstered by the success of Take-Two’s key franchises. NBA 2K25 Arcade Edition launched on Apple Arcade, Grand Theft Auto Online’s Agents of Sabotage update and the release of the PC version of Red Dead Redemption helped to provide an increase in numbers. Grand Theft Auto 5 has now sold over 210 million copies 12 years after release, marking another 5 million units sold since the last quarter, while Red Dead Redemption 2 has reached 70 million copies sold.
The growth in recurrent consumer spending, which was up 9% year-over-year, accounted for 79% of total net bookings, according to the report. Mobile titles such as Toon Blast, Match Factory, and Words with Friends also positively affected Take-Two’s financial growth.
“We achieved solid results during the holiday season, with NBA 2K significantly outperforming expectations, which helped offset some moderation in mobile revenues,” said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two Interactive. “Our projections for fiscal year 2025 remain positive, and we are confident in our outlook for the fourth quarter.”
At the same time, Take-Two’s 2025 release calendar is shaping up with releases such as Sid Meier’s Civilization VII in February, PGA TOUR 2K25 and WWE 2K25 in March, Mafia: The Old Country in the summer and Grand Theft Auto 6 in the fall.
“We continue to invest in our development pipeline, and we’re excited about the upcoming releases,” Zelnick said. “We’re particularly looking forward to GTA 6 and Mafia: The Old Country. The anticipation for GTA 6 is extraordinary, and we feel confident in the momentum leading into the fall.”
In addition to major titles, Take-Two’s portfolio will include WWE 2K return to mobile with Netflix, Borderlands 4, Judas from Bioshock creator, and Zynga’s racing title CSR 3, which remain undated but are expected to contribute to the company’s growth in the latter half of the year.
Looking forward to 2025, Zelnick briefly mentioned the other big launch of 2025, Nintendo Switch 2, and shared his thoughts on collaboration with a Japanese company.
“We’ve had obviously a long-standing relationship with Nintendo,” he said. “We’ve supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release.” While Take-Two never released GTA 5 on Switch, it bought several Borderlands, NBA 2K, and WWE 2K titles for Nintendo’s console.
Zelnick also credited Nintendo’s changing audience as to why the company expects to support Nintendo’s next console. “There was a time when Nintendo platforms were geared at younger audiences, that was reflected in our release schedule. Today, with Switch and potentially with Switch 2, the Switch device can support any audience.”
