Bandai Namco’s Tamagotchi franchise is branching out further with the evolution of Tamagotchi Adventure Kingdom under the guidance of Chanh Ly, Senior Producer and Publishing Lead at Bandai Namco Mobile.
“We always envisioned creating a true adventure game for the Tamagotchi IP,” Ly shared in a recent interview. Bandai Namco’s team selected to develop the new Tamagotchi with Alike Studio, creators of Very Little Nightmares.
“Outside of Japan, many people know Tamagotchi as a nostalgic toy, but the franchise also has a deep lore through its anime,” according to Ly, adapting the Tamagotchi IP for a more mature and diverse audience became challenging, and his team had to balance staying true to the original designs of the Tamagotchi characters while expanding the game’s narrative.
Another challenge was adapting a simulation game for mobile while with titles like Animal Crossing, the bar for this genre is set high. “It was important to make sure the game felt cozy and enjoyable without being overly childish,” Ly noted.
Ly also explained that the decision to release the Tamagotchi Adventure Kingdom on Apple Arcade was pivotal: “We had prior experience with Apple Arcade, and it was a perfect fit for this type of game.” The platform’s ad-free environment allowed the team to focus on creating a safe, immersive experience.
Looking to the future, Ly hints at Tamagotchi Adventure Kingdom’s major updates, including new characters, regions, and even a new area guarded by a dragon.
