Electronic Arts has confirmed that a new installment in the Battlefield franchise will be released between April 2025 and March 2026. This announcement was made as part of EA’s third-quarter earnings report for the fiscal year ending March 2025.

The new Battlefield title will see a large-scale development effort, as EA has deployed four of its internal studios to bring a new iteration to life and made it a priority.

“EA unveiled Battlefield Labs, a new initiative allowing player-driven testing and innovation ahead of the franchise’s expected fiscal year 2026 release,” said the company’s financial report.

“This is an unprecedented moment for Battlefield,” EA stated. “Our focus is on creating a game that resonates with both long-time fans and newcomers, ensuring that we deliver a modern Battlefield experience that hits the perfect note between form, function, and feel.”

“We need to earn the trust of our core players back, but we also want to expand the universe and offer new experiences within Battlefield,” Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn and Group GM for EA Studios Organization said in a recent interview. “We’re all in on Battlefield, and we plan to offer more for players than ever before.”

As of the end of 2024, the Battlefield franchise had sold approximately 90 million units worldwide taking into account that published in 2021, Battlefield 2042, the most recent installment in the franchise, was met with mixed to negative reception upon release. It was criticized for the lack of content at launch, numerous bugs, and an unstable experience. A notable point of contention was the absence of a traditional single-player campaign, which had been a staple in previous titles. Additionally, the game’s emphasis on large-scale, chaotic multiplayer combat led to a feeling of disconnection for some fans, as the more tactical elements that defined earlier Battlefield games were overshadowed by the new mechanics.
