Nintendo revealed in its latest earnings report for the fiscal quarter ending Dec. 31, 2024, that the Switch console has officially surpassed 150.86 million units sold worldwide.

This milestone puts Nintendo Switch closer to the second place on the list of the best-selling consoles of all time, occupied by Nintendo DS, a foldable handheld game console produced by Nintendo and released globally between 2004 and 2005 in quantity of 154.02 million units.

During the final quarter of 2024 alone, Nintendo sold 4.82 million Switch consoles. Software sales remained strong as well, with 53.7 million games sold during the same period.

Nintendo’s earnings report also highlighted updated sales figures for its top-performing first-party titles. Leading the pack is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which continues its record-breaking run with 67.35 million copies sold, making it the best-selling game on the platform. Among other top performers are Animal Crossing: New Horizons (47.44 million), Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (35.88 million), and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (32.62 million).

Recent releases have also made an impressive debut in Nintendo’s sales charts. Super Mario Party Jamboree, the latest installment in the Mario Party franchise, has already sold 6.17 million copies since its release. Mario & Luigi: Brothership, the recent return of the RPG duo, has sold 1.84 million copies. On top of that, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (2024) recorded 2.06 million in sales.

The Legend of Zelda series also continues to thrive, with The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom reaching 3.91 million units sold, while The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has hit 21.55 million.

As total software sales for the Switch are surpassing 1.35 billion units and the console sold over 150 million copies, analysts predict that continued strong sales could push the Switch further on top of all-time console rankings before the end of its lifecycle and overtake PlayStation 2 with its 160 million sales.
