Ex-PlayStation Boss Calls Nintendo’s Switch 2 Reveal ‘Sneaky’

Shuhei Yoshida, former president of PlayStation Studios, thought that Nintendo’s Switch 2 reveal would be a much bigger announcement.
In an interview in MinnMax, Ben Hanson, host of MinnMax, asked Shuhei Yoshida about his thoughts on Nintendo’s Switch 2. Yoshida thought that the announcement would be more grand, but instead, it was a bit sneaky, especially for a much-awaited console.
“I am surprised there are not many surprises,” he said in the interview. He added that the only thing that surprised him in the reveal was a part of the reveal trailer where the joy-cons were hinted to have mouse-like capabilities. Yoshida thought that the joy-cons having those capabilities might entice players to play first-person shooter games on the console.
However, he also thinks it might not be the only way to use the joy-cons. “Because it’s Nintendo, they’ll use it in some weird and amazing way. Something that people wouldn’t anticipate”. He added that he hopes that in the April showcase, Nintendo reveals something that is still hidden.
Most shooter games on consoles use analog sticks or motion controls. In Splatoon’s case, a combination of both. There might be a chance that the upcoming Metroid Prime 4 will be able to take advantage of this newly teased feature. A new entry to the Splatoon franchise is also a great candidate.
Shuhei Yoshida acted as the President of PlayStation Studio from 2008 to 2019. He recently retired from Sony Interactive Entertainment in 2025. He received a BAFTA Fellowship award at the 19th British Academy Games Awards in 2023 for his contributions to the industry.
