Key points
  1. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 released on January 30, 2025.
  2. The PC port received mixed reviews due to its poor performance optimization.
  3. Complaints include frame rate drops, crashes, and graphical glitches.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 released in an unstable state on January 30, 2025 – resulting in “Mixed” reviews on Steam. Nixxes’ other Spider-Man ports for the franchise were critically acclaimed, with the original Spider-Man Remastered impressing players with enhanced resolution and photo-mode.

But it seems they missed the mark with their latest port, with numerous Steam reviews recommending waiting for an update before spending $59.99 (USD) on the game.

Many reviewers complain about frequent crashes often related to graphics driver issues.

The issues mentioned do not stop there – one user reported that cutscenes fail to load properly, with lighting and key visuals not rendering correctly. One reviewer stated that Spider-Man 2 is “functional” on low settings on the Steam deck, but performance is still inconsistent.

Nixxes has acknowledged the widespread issues and created a customer support weblink in an attempt to correct them. As of January 31, the game has not been updated and no patch has been publicly announced.

Spider-Man 2 originally launched on PlayStation 5 in October of 2023. A sequel to both the original Spider-Man and Miles Morales, the PlayStation 5 version sold over 11 million copies, and won in multiple categories at the D.I.C.E. Awards, including Action Game of the Year, Technical Achievement, Audio Design, Best Character, Achievement in Animation and Original Music Composition.
