Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games, has announced a new game. It is developed by his new studio, Absurd Ventures.

Absurd Ventures released artwork showcasing 20 characters from the Absurdaverse. The art shows a mixed crowd of teenagers, a viking warrior, hipsters, the undead, a fantasy dwarf, nerds, and even a man in a top hat with steampunk goggles. In a statement accompanying the artwork, the studio teased, “Prepare to meet some new kinds of heroes (and watch them suffer),” but remains game’s genre is unclear.

On top of the “original story-driven action-comedy adventure game” set within the Absurdaverse, the studio plans to introduce their new IP through animated projects slated for release later this year.

Houser stated, “We are building Absurd Ventures to create new universes and to tell great stories, wherever and however we can.” 

The studio seeks to develop narrative worlds and characters across various genres and mediums, including live-action and animation, scripted podcasts, video games, books and graphic novels. For now, Absurd Ventures has already released a narrative podcast called A Better Paradise.
Dan Houser departed from Rockstar Games in 2020. He co-founded Rockstar with his brother Sam in 1998, contributing significantly to the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption series. Houser’s former company plans to release the Grand Theft Auto 6 later this year.
