Netflix has officially announced an anime adaptation of the popular video game franchise: Devil May Cry, set to premiere on April 3, 2025. The first season is expected to have eight episodes in total.
On January 30, the show’s opening theme was revealed: Limp Bizkit’s 2000 hit “Rollin.” The American rock band which rose to prominence in the late 90s and early 2000s, is known for its aggressive nu-metal style, making the track a fitting choice for the anime’s tone.
Producer Adi Shankar took to X (formerly Twitter) to explain his creative vision for the series’ soundtrack and aesthetic: “In my DMC Universe each season will have a different feel to emulate the way each game has a different feel. That means a different theme song each season and a completely different title design each season.”
Also … My DMC Universe is set in a late ’90s/early 2000s PS2 era of the world. It’s not set in modern times. It’s set in my memory of the world, pre- and post-9/11. My music choices reflect this. My series features a mix of hits from that era and greatest musical hits from the DMC franchise,” added Shankar.
Devil May Cry was developed and published by Capcom, originally releasing in 2001 for Playstation 2. The series has since spawned multiple sequels and spin-offs, amassing a dedicated fan base. Its latest installment, Devil May Cry 5, received widespread critical acclaim, and won Best Action Game Award at The Game Awards in 2019.
