Elon Musk Admits Bannable Offense in PoE 2, Commits It Again and Somehow Remains Unbanned
|
- Elon Musk has admitted to cheating in video games.
- Despite bannable offence admission, Musk’s account in PoE 2 is still functioning and violating the game’s terms.
- Path of Exile 2 sold over 1 million copies at the Early Access launch as of Dec. 6, 2024 data.
One day after admitting to terms violation in Path of Exile 2, Elon Musk’s PoE 2 account was observed grinding in-game while he attended Donald Trump’s inauguration alongside Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg on Jan. 20, 2025.
Account piloting, which involves sharing your account credentials with another person to play on your behalf, is against the Terms of Service of Path of Exile 2. Engaging in such activities can lead to penalties, including account suspension or permanent bans. It’s important to note that if one of your accounts is muted or banned, it will affect all associated accounts.
On Jan. 19, in direct messages shared by YouTuber NikoWrex, Musk admitted to account sharing not just in Path of Exile 2 but in Diablo 4 as well, claiming it was necessary to remain competitive against players in Asia. Nonetheless, it didn’t stop him earlier from bragging and taking all the credit for his account’s progress in Diablo 4 on Lex Fridman’s podcast.
One day later, on Jan. 20, while streaming, Quin69 toggled between Musk’s PoE account grinding in-game and live coverage of Trump’s inauguration. “Elon, how are you there? How are you in Sulphuric Caverns right now?” he exclaimed. At the very same moment when he was caught online for account piloting, Elon also went viral due to a video of him giving a straight-arm ‘’nazi’’ salute.
Earlier in January 2025 streamers noticed inconsistencies in Musk’s gameplay, including beginner-level mistakes that seemed incongruous with his high-level character. Elon Musk struggled with mana refill, failing to use one of the most basic mechanics in the Path of Exile 2.
Even after such clear observations and Musk’s confession of cheating in PoE 2, his account avoids all the sanctions envisioned by the Terms of Service of Path of Exile 2 developed and published by Grinding Gear Games.
While Elon’s PoE 2 piloting account played on Hardcore Mode remains untouched, except that his character occasionally died on the 10th of January at position seven on the ladder, the subreddit dedicated to Diablo is already wondering why Musk is not banned in Diablo 4 after admitting to cheating and violating terms of the game.
A sequel to the 2013th Path of Exile, Path of Exile 2, has been available since Dec. 6, 2024. PoE 2 is in the Early Access phase. The game’s developers, Grinding Gear Games, have not announced an official release date for the full version, while the Early Access is expected to last at least six months. As of Jan. 21, 2025, PoE 2 has already sold over 1 million copies across Windows PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
