In early January 2025, Amazon began canceling preorders for the 3DS port of Mighty No. 9, nearly a decade after the original game’s release.

After years of silence, Jeff Bezos’s corporation has begun canceling preorders for the long-promised port of the Mega Man spiritual successor, Mighty No. 9, a 2016 action platformer developed by Comcept in conjunction with Inti Creates and published by Deep Silver. The cancellation notices from Amazon UK cited a “lack of availability” for the preordered item.

Mighty No. 9 started its path to players on Kickstarter in 2013. The campaign successfully funded the goal two days after the launch in September 2013, ultimately raising over $3.8 million and hitting stretch goals for 3DS and PlayStation Vita versions.

However, while the game did launch on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Wii U platforms in 2016, the ports for handheld game consoles remained uncertain for years, with no official updates from developer Comcept or publisher Deep Silver haven’t happened yet.

Prolonged delays and Comcept’s move to crowdfunding another project, Red Ash: The Indelible Legend, on Kickstarter led to allegations of poor management. Upon release, the game got mixed to negative reviews from critics, who criticized its design, visuals, limited content, voice acting, storyline, and technical issues.

Comcept founder Keiji Inafune has since shifted his focus to other projects. His upcoming title, Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, is set to release this year, marking a departure from the Mighty No. 9 saga that has sold approximately 1.5 million copies in total.
