Chinese game development company NetEase Games, the developer of the smashing hit superhero PvP shooter Marvel Rivals, has issued an apology to players who were mistakenly banned for cheating.

The announcement was made on the game’s official Discord server, clarifying that some users were falsely flagged as cheaters due to their use of compatibility layer programs, even though they had not been engaged in any cheating behavior.

“We sincerely apologize for this situation and want to assure you that we do not and will not ban players who are playing fairly and without cheating,” NetEase said in its statement. The company added that it had identified the affected players, lifted their bans, and expressed regret for the inconvenience.

In response to the incident, NetEase emphasized its commitment to maintaining a fair gaming environment. The company has promised to invest further in improving the accuracy of its anti-cheat systems.

NetEase stated, “Our mission is to provide all players with a fair, just, and enjoyable gaming environment. Therefore, preventing and identifying cheaters is one of our top priorities”. The developer encouraged players to report any suspected cheating behavior, ensuring that such cases are promptly investigated.

Players who believe they were wrongly banned have been advised to appeal through the game’s customer support system, which can be accessed in-game or via Discord.

The company’s apology statement comes as Marvel Rivals gears up for Season 1, which is set to launch on Jan. 9. The season will introduce new content, bringing gamers fresh maps, new characters, special events and rewards, a new game mode called Doom Match and the Eternal Night Fall Battle Pass.
