In the two months following the events of Rise of the Tomb Raider, Lara Croft and her ally Jonah Maiava continue their quest to thwart the nefarious plans of the paramilitary group Trinity. Their search leads them to Cozumel, Mexico, where they track down Pedro Dominguez, the leader of Trinity’s High Council. While infiltrating nearby tombs excavated by Trinity, Lara uncovers a temple housing the powerful Dagger of Chak Chel and hints about a hidden city. The ancient murals warn of a catastrophic event known as “the Cleansing,” a Mayan apocalypse that culminates in a solar eclipse. Ignoring these dire warnings, Lara takes the Dagger to prevent Trinity from using it, only to be confronted by Dominguez, who reveals that her actions have triggered the Cleansing.
