Bedrock Edition, also known as the Bedrock Version or simply Bedrock, encompasses the versatile, multi-platform editions of Minecraft crafted by Mojang Studios, Xbox Game Studios, 4J Studios, and SkyBox Labs. Initially, these editions were collectively known as “Pocket Edition,” “MCPE,” or “Pocket/Windows 10 Edition” due to their origins in the Pocket Edition engine.
All Bedrock editions carry the title Minecraft without any additional subtitles. The latest version is 1.16.0. Before the groundbreaking Better Together Update, each platform featured unique subtitles, including Pocket Edition for mobile, Windows 10 Edition, Gear VR Edition, and Fire TV Edition. Notably, the Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4 editions were part of the Legacy Console Edition prior to the update, necessitating the transfer of features to Bedrock Edition. The Apple TV Edition was discontinued shortly thereafter, leading to its removal from the App Store.
While each Bedrock version offers a similar experience, the pricing varies across platforms. Approximate costs in USD include mobile versions at $6.99 (€7.99, £6.99, AU$10.99), with PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Fire TV priced at $19.99 (€19.99, £16.74, AU$29.95). The Windows 10 and Nintendo Switch editions are the premium options at $29.99 (€19.99, £16.74,
