Metal Gear
Metal Gear is widely recognized as the pioneer of the stealth game genre and marks the debut title of legendary game designer Hideo Kojima, who directed many of its sequels.
In this iconic game, players step into the shoes of Solid Snake, a special forces operative tasked with a covert infiltration mission into the heavily fortified region of Outer Heaven. The primary objective? To destroy Metal Gear, a formidable bipedal walking tank capable of launching nuclear missiles from any location around the globe.
As players guide Solid Snake through various environments, stealth is paramount—avoiding detection from patrolling guards is key. If spotted, the game transitions into “Alert Mode.” In this situation, players must find a way to evade enemy sight to continue their mission. There are different strategies based on how discovery occurs:
If Snake is seen by an enemy, and only a single exclamation mark appears, only the guards in his immediate vicinity will pursue him, allowing for a quick escape by moving to an adjacent screen.
However, if two exclamation marks appear, or if an alarm is triggered by surveillance cameras or loud weapons, reinforcements will join the fray, and Snake can only evade by defeating the oncoming foes, accessing outdoor areas, or using an elevator to escape.
Players begin the game unarmed but soon find weapons such as the Beretta 92F, M79 grenade launcher, and various explosives like remote control missiles and landmines. While ammunition is limited, players can replenish their stock
As the 20th century draws to a close, Western powers uncover a disturbing plot: a mass destruction weapon is being constructed in Outer Heaven, a fortified stronghold established by a “legendary mercenary” located 200 km north of Galzburg, South Africa. The elite special forces unit, FOXHOUND, sends their top agent, Gray Fox, to infiltrate this heavily protected fortress, assess the situation, and neutralize the imminent threat. However, communication with Gray Fox is abruptly lost a few days later, with his last haunting message simply stating “METAL GEAR…” To uncover the fate of Gray Fox, FOXHOUND commander Big Boss dispatches his latest recruit, Solid Snake, on a high-stakes mission codenamed Intrude N313.
Upon his stealthy insertion into Outer Heaven, Snake aligns himself with local resistance fighters Schneider, Diane, and Jennifer. Utilizing his extensive combat skills and equipment sourced on-site, he successfully rescues Gray Fox, who reveals that Metal Gear is a cutting-edge, nuclear-capable bipedal tank that can execute combat missions and launch nuclear strikes from any position. Outer Heaven’s sinister plan involves using Metal Gear to establish itself as the dominant global superpower.
In a mission to dismantle Metal Gear and defeat the Outer Heaven mercenaries, Snake also rescues the lead engineer Dr. Pettrovich Madnar and his daughter Ellen. The scientist provides critical intelligence on how to destroy Metal Gear, enabling Snake to confront Outer Heaven’s
