Here's a fun one… Assassin's Creed: Shadows has been the best-selling video game in the US for each of its first 3 weeks in market, according to Circana's Retail Tracking Service (dollar sales, latest data through April 5th). Currently ranks #2 year-to-date trailing only Monster Hunter: Wilds.

Both titles were highly anticipated for years prior to their release – with Monster Hunter fans long awaiting another mainline installment to the franchise. Wilds received criticism for its poor PC optimization, especially during its open beta. Meanwhile, Assassin’s Creed Shadows became a controversial topic of discussion prior to its release, largely due to differing political opinions regarding cultural representation.

According to the stats revealed by Circana, the two are performing exceptionally well financially, at least compared to other 2025 video game title releases. But with the Switch 2 releasing in 2025, alongside GTA VI’s eventual launch, the title of best selling game of 2025 is very much undecided.

Monster Hunter Wilds topped eight million sales in three days, while Assassin’s Creed Shadows reached three million players on its release day.
