Limited Run Games revealed 666 boxes that can run Doom. The limited edition of Doom boxes is an homage to a long-lasting joky mass experiment under the hashtag #itrunsdoom.
Ahead of the launch Doom: the Dark Ages Limited Run Games announced preorder of Will It Run Edition that includes Doom, Doom II, TNT: Evilution, The Plutonia Experiment, Master Levels for Doom II, No Rest for the Living, Sigil & Sigil II, Legacy of Rust (a new episode created in collaboration by id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames), and a new Deathmatch map pack featuring 25 maps.
The main feature of the bundle is that the original Doom, a 1993 first-person shooter game developed and published by id Software, is playable on the box.
Will It Run Edition introduces such enhancements as online cross-platform deathmatch and co-op support for up to 16 players, as well as an in-game mod browser. Players can choose between the original MIDI soundtracks for Doom and Doom II or opt for modernized IDKFA versions by Andrew Hulshult, which include brand-new Doom II recordings.
The games now run on the KEX engine. BOOM source compatibility will allow players to access in-game hundreds of community-created mods from the past 25 years. Additional accessibility options have been added, along with a modern font for better legibility, high-contrast mode, text-to-speech, and speech-to-text for multiplayer chat.
Furthermore, the game has been localized into eight new languages: Mexican, Spanish, Brazilian, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.
Revealed by Limited Run Games, Will It Run Edition continues the long list of multiple ports of original Doom on various devices. Earlier this year, Gaming.News covered the stories of Doom running in Microsoft Word and in a PDF File.
On top of that since its release, Doom has been ported to Microsoft Paint, Notepad, Balatro roguelike poker game that won Best Indie Game at TGA 2024, Nintendo’s Alarmo smart alarm clock, pregnancy test, ATM, oscilloscope, calculator powered by potatoes, Excel, LEGO brick, volumetric voxel display, Kodak digital camera, Nokia N95 and dozens of other things easy to find by hashtag #itrunsdoom on different social media platforms including the ItRunsDoom subreddit.
