Trump’s Tariffs Inadvertently Delay Canada Switch 2 Preorders

|
- The Nintendo Switch 2’s preorder date for Canada is being pushed back.
- This is a reflection of the tariffs, implemented by US president Donald Trump.
- No exact preorder date has been revealed yet.
In response to Trump’s new tariff laws, Nintendo announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date in Canada “will not start on April 9, 2025, to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.”
“Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, is unchanged,” Nintendo of Canada shared in a statement.
While many countries have already begun taking preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2, Canada and the United States have not yet announced preorder dates. The anticipated price for the console is $629 CAD in Canada and $449 USD in the United States.
The Nintendo Switch 2 features substantially upgraded specs from its predecessor – boasting a bigger screen, more GPU, and better visuals. The price point for Switch 2 titles is a controversial topic, with consumers voicing concerns regarding $90 (USD) physical game cards.
This “variable pricing” for game titles, according to Nintendo President Doug Bowser, is affected by the “development that’s gone into the game, the breadth and depth of the gameplay, if you will, the durability over time and the repeatability of gameplay experiences.”
Doug Bowser shared the Trump tariffs were not factored in when deciding on the price-points for the console itself.
