Key points

  1. Nintendo Switch 2 will remain the only console with no system-wide achievement system.
  2. The closest players will get to an achievement system will be through Zelda Notes.
  3. The Switch 2 is set to release on June 5.

The Nintendo Switch 2 will remain the only console with no system-wide achievement system, as per Nintendo’s Vice President of Player and Product Experience, Bill Trinen. He didn’t provide a reason why Nintendo isn’t adding the system.

While there will be no traditional achievement system for the Switch 2, there will be shades of it in the Switch App via Polygon. Zelda Notes, a new application that will be available together with the release of the Switch 2, will feature an achievement-like system. According to Nintendo, players will be able to compare their records with players around the world.

Additionally, Polygon also asked Trinen about the “C” button. When asked what happens when players click the button while not a subscriber of Nintendo Switch Online (NSO), Trinen said, “You would be able to find out about the NSO subscription there and get a sense of some of the functionality.”

This means that the button would essentially lead you to a page talking about the Nintendo Switch Online and urging you to subscribe to be able to take advantage of the feature. Trinen also mentioned that the C button is part of the platform experience. “NSO really is a critical piece of the Nintendo Switch 2 experience.”

The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to release on June 5. However, due to recent events, pre-orders for the system have been pulled.
