Return of Verdansk map to Call of Duty: Warzone peaked at 352,640 viewers on Twitch and also gathered 113,812 concurrent players on Steam at a high ebb on April 3, 2025. This marks the highest player and viewer counts for Call of Duty in 2025. Besides that, the last time Warzone had numbers that high was in November 2022 due to the release of Warzone 2.0.
The popularity of Verdansk’s comeback is defined by the fact that this map was the only available battle royale ground in Warzone at the game’s launch on March 10, 2020. In December 2021, industrial Verdansk was replaced with a larger tropical map Caldera.
The original Verdansk map hosted several major events within Warzone, including seasonal changes, limited-time modes, and narrative events tied to the game’s universe, such as The Haunting of Verdansk in 2020 dedicated to Halloween, The Return of Verdansk ’84 in 2021 that re-imagined map in the 1980s setting and The Nuke Event that occurred on Dec. 7, 2021 when a nuclear explosion destroyed parts of the map and led to the transition to Caldera.
