Nintendo Switch Online App to Receive Major Update with Switch 2 Launch

|
- The Nintendo Switch Online phone app will update to the Nintendo Switch App.
- One new feature will allow users to view screenshots and videos taken on the Switch 2 directly in the app.
- The app is free on the Google Play Store and the App Store.
The Nintendo Switch Online app will be changed to the Nintendo Switch App with the launch of the Switch 2. The app will introduce new features, including one that makes it easier to extract screenshots without relying on external storage, social media uploads, or QR codes.
The new site dedicated to the app’s update mentioned that screenshots and videos captured on the Switch 2 will now be accessible in the Nintendo Switch App. The app shows the latest 100 screenshots or videos from the last 30 days. For comparison, the PS App only shows captures from the past 14 days, but it doesn’t have a cap of 100 items. This feature is only available on the Switch 2 and will not require users to subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online (NSO).
A new game-specific service will also be added. The Switch 2 Direct showed Zelda Notes, an app designed for the Switch 2 versions of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. It showed that players can share their builds and even locate Korok seeds that they have not collected yet. Zelda Notes will not require an NSO subscription.
The website also reminds users that the Nintendo Switch App’s voice chat feature will only be available for supported games on the Switch. Exclusive games for the Switch 2 will not have this feature as the console already has GameChat.
The Nintendo Switch Online app is a smartphone application developed by Nintendo to enhance the experience for Switch users. It allows users to add friends, check who’s online, and use game-specific services. The app is free on the Google Play Store and the App Store.
