Key points
  1. Tom Henderson hints that the multiplayer Assassin’s Creed game should be coming out this year.
  2. Ubisoft has talked about the game in 2022 with Video Games Chronicle.
  3. The studio had a multiplayer-focused Assassin’s Creed before, called Assassin’s Creed Unity.

According to a popular industry insider, Assassin’s Creed Invictus will be coming out this year. The game is expected to be a multiplayer game with arcade elements.

On April 1, Tom Henderson, the owner of Insider Gaming, replied to a comment under one of the outlet’s Twitter posts asking what happened to Invictus. He said, “Should be this year.”

Most information known about this title comes from Insider Gaming. They reported that the game will feature a team deathmatch, free-for-all, and a speedrunning competition. The gameplay is said to be “very arcade,” and characters from past Assassin’s Creed games like Cesare Borgia and Ezio Auditore da Firenze will appear in it.

Ubisoft has talked about the game in 2022. According to Marc-Alexis Côté, the executive producer of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, he believes the Assassin’s Creed franchise can branch into “different channels” and that they’ve had multiplayer in the past, but it wasn’t accessible. He is most likely talking about Assassin’s Creed Unity.

Assassin’s Creed Invictus was also mentioned in a financial report. Ubisoft’s first half of 2022-23 financial report has a short paragraph that says a team that includes For Honor veterans is working on bringing back multiplayer to Assassin’s Creed under the codename Invictus.

Additionally, Ubisoft is creating a hub for Assassin’s Creed games called the Animus Hub. This is where players can access future Assassin’s Creed games. Invictus is most likely going to be included here.

Ubisoft is currently celebrating the success of Assassin’s Creed Shadow’s release. The game has passed over 3 million players and is the second-highest day-one sales in the franchise’s history.
