- Strauss Zelnick hints that they will only start promoting GTA 6 when it’s close to release.
- This information was revealed in an interview with Bloomberg.
- Several outlets report that the game will release in the Fall of 2025.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Take-Two head honcho Strauss Zelnick was asked about the release date of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6). While not directly answering the question, he mentioned that he found out that the best thing to do is to release marketing materials relatively close to the game’s release window.
“The anticipation for that title may be the greatest anticipation I’ve ever seen for an entertainment property,” Zelnick said in the interview. He then explained that he’s been in the industry for quite some time now and that they found out that the best way to promote a game is to only market it when it’s close to the release window.
In March 2024, Kotaku reported that the release date of GTA 6 could miss its 2025 release target and potentially slip to 2026. However, in May of the same year, Take-Two insisted that they are targeting a Fall 2025 release window. In January 2025, an online vendor potentially leaked the game’s release date as September 17.
With the uncertainty of GTA 6’s release looming, some studios mentioned that they are trying to avoid the game’s release date because “Rockstar games always suck a lot of money and, more importantly, time out of the market.”
GTA 6’s trailer was released in 2023, and it contained a text at the end that said, “Coming 2025.” The game has suffered from leaks in 2022, with a lot of videos uploaded to the internet showcasing the leaks. Take-Two Interactive has acknowledged that the leaks were genuine.
