Nintendo’s plans for the Switch 2 console appear to have surfaced online. The leaked reports further suggest a release window for the Switch 2 in May or June 2025.

According to leaker Nate the Hate, Nintendo is set to unveil the Switch 2 on the third week of January, on Thursday 16, with a hardware-focused trailer. This initial announcement will reportedly spotlight the console’s technical advancements, while the accompanying software lineup will be showcased during a Nintendo Direct later in February or early March. Some industry outlets, such as VGC and The Verge’s Tom Warren, have corroborated these claims, lending significant credibility to the timeline.

Additionally, rumors indicate the console will debut alongside a new installment of the Mario Kart series, with a 3D Mario title scheduled for release in the holiday season of 2025. Other notable titles, such as Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake, are reportedly making their way to the new platform as well.

As of September 2024, the Nintendo Switch has sold over 146 million units worldwide, making it Nintendo’s best-selling home console and the third best-selling game console of all time, behind the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS. In terms of software, the Switch has achieved over 1.3 billion game sales.

  • Pokémon Sword and Shield – 26.44 million units;
  • Pokémon Scarlet and Violet – 25.69 million units;
  • The Legend of Zelda – Tears of the Kingdom: 21.04 million units;
  • Super Mario Party – 20.98 million units;
  • New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe – 17.77 million units.
