A group of 33 Enshrouded players spent 74 days (10,000 hours in total) recreating the city of Erebor from The Lord of the Rings universe.
According to the team’s stats, the project involved excavating approximately 220 million blocks and placing more than 15 million, to mined 220 million blocks to set up the legendary city of Dwarves’ Kingdom beneath the Lonely Mountain.
Enshrouded enthusiasts sculpted Thorin Oakenshield’s ancestral home, which was occupied by the dragon Smaug, in exquisite detail. The recreation includes towering stone halls, sweeping staircases, cliffside walkways, windows, and rows of lanterns illuminating the cavernous interior, clearly inspired by Peter Jackson’s film adaptation of The Hobbit, or There and Back Again fantasy novel by J. R. R. Tolkien. They even created the Smaug’s hoard itself as a vast treasure hall packed with riches and a sculpted dragon skull looming above it all.
As of August 2024, Enshrouded has surpassed 3 million copies sold since its Early Access release in January 2024. It is worth noting that the game reached 1 million players within four days of launch and doubled that to 2 million players within its first month. In terms of revenue, estimates suggest that Enshrouded has generated approximately $94 million in gross revenue since its release. The title from Keen Games is set for official release on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2025.
