Reports Indicate Widespread Software Issues with Nvidia RTX 40 Series, Company Remains Silent

- Older RTX models, including the 40 series, are experiencing software issues.
- The issue causes a complete freeze that forces a hard restart.
- Nvidia is reportedly focusing on their 50 series and has not communicated regarding the software issues for older generations.
Many users using the older RTX series are experiencing stability issues – Nvidia implemented hotfixes for the newer hardware, but the issue reportedly still remains prevalent for older models, such as the RTX 40 series. The issue results in the system completely crashing – thereby requiring a full reboot.
A hardware enthusiast compiled a list of confirmed cases with the goal to increase awareness of the issue.
“Widespread Black Screen or Hard OS Crash Issues on 4xxx (or older) Series Cards Need To Be Widely Known & Fixed,” they shared. The user then compiled a list of a dozen publicly revealed cases where others experienced the same issue.
“It has been several months now and this issue still has not been fixed.”
Users speculate that one of the reasons for this issue stems from the 572.xx driver, a software update implemented by Nvidia. The community discovered several alternative solutions – including disabling Frame Generation and G-Sync, downgrading DLSS versions, rolling back drivers, and decreasing refresh rates. Despite the vocal community, Nvidia has not updated the community regarding software fixes for the widespread issues.
Nvidia’s software updates mostly target their newest generation of drivers. They are also preparing for the launch of the upcoming RTX 5060 Ti, which supposedly releases on April 16.
