A brand new entry to the Painkiller franchise was announced during Future Games Show Spring Showcase 2025. The game is titled “Painkiller,” and it is marketed to reimagine the classic franchise.
Developed by Anshar Studios and published by 3D Realms, the new Painkiller game is planned to release in Fall of 2025. No exact release date has been determined yet.
According to the Steam page, which currently has no pre-purchase option, the game will support cross-platform multiplayer. This means PlayStation 5, Steam, and Xbox Series X/S players should be able to play with one another. The game supports up to three players with full offline support.
Painkiller has both action and platforming elements built into the gameplay, playing similarly to the Doom franchise. Players have the option of choosing among four characters: Ink, Void, Sol, and Rich. Each character has different abilities.
The recommended and minimum system requirements for the title have not yet been revealed on Steam.
Painkiller’s original title released in April of 2004, and was developed by People Can Fly and published by Dreamcatcher. The title’s fast-paced action and multiplayer features allowed the game to flourish, Painkiller made a substantial impact on the first-person shooter genre. It has since seen multiple spinoffs since its initial debut.
