Gamers Can Now Mod Their Xbox 360s Using A USB Drive

A new software makes the Xbox 360 one of the easiest moddable consoles now as it only requires a USB drive. Previously, modding enthusiasts will have to do a Reset Glitch Hack (RGH) which requires opening the console and doing hardware modifications.
First reported by The Verge, Xbox 360s can now be modded using a USB drive which contains the software called Bad Update. The USB drive must be formatted to FAT32, as well. The instructions for the exploit’s setup isn’t too complicated either, but it’s the reliability of the hacking that can take some time.
According to the creator of Bad Update, the reliability of the software cracking Xbox’s hypervisor to be able to run unsigned code is only about 30%. The developer mentioned that this is because the exploit needs precise timing and several other conditions to be met before it triggers successfully. If the hack fails to trigger, the user will have to reboot their Xbox and try again
Additionally, the hack will be reset once the console is powered off. Since the Xbox 360 doesn’t have a sleep function, gamers will find themselves doing the exploit a bunch of times if they want to play modded games.
The developer also mentioned that his main goal was to hack the hypervisor and not to create an all-in-one homebrew solution. As such, other hackers will have to develop that on their own.
Being able to hack an Xbox 360 using a thumb drive is huge. Previously, the modding community used the Reset Glitch Hack, which involved a very intimidating process, including soldering components onto the Xbox 360’s board.
