Key points

  1. Pakistan cements itself as the best Tekken 8 region.
  2. Despite losing heavily in the exhibition matches on the first day, Team Pakistan bounced back on days 2 and 3.
  3. In 2019, Knee went to Pakistan to practice against the Pakistani players who were unknown during that time.

Team Pakistan emerged victorious at the Tekken 8 Soop Nations Cup in Seoul, South Korea, cementing its status as the strongest Tekken region in the world. Despite losing in the exhibition matches on the first day, Pakistan dominated the team battles, securing the overall victory 13-9.

The event, held from March 14-16, 2025, featured a mix of exhibition matches and team-based battles designed to determine which nation stands atop the Tekken 8 competitive scene. South Korea started strong in the exhibition phase, with Lee “EDGE” Ju-Hyung edging out Adeel “THE JON” Sheikh 5-4, while Bae “Knee” Jae-Min delivered a commanding 10-2 victory over longtime rival Arslan “Arslan Ash” Siddique. However, Pakistan responded in dominant fashion in the team battles, taking Day 2’s matches 7-3 before sealing the series on Day 3, with THE JON and Hafiz Tanveer closing out the event with a four-win streak.

The victory reinforces Pakistan’s meteoric rise in Tekken, a journey that began in 2019, when Arslan Ash stunned the world by winning EVO Japan, defeating legendary players like Knee and Alexandre “AK” Laverez. The dominance of Pakistani Tekken has continued ever since, despite the country’s lack of structured esports support, limited travel opportunities due to visa restrictions, and frequent power outages affecting training conditions.

Knee, widely considered as the best Tekken player of all time, went to Pakistan in 2019 to practice against the players in the country which were unknown at the time.
