FragPunk has issued an apology after mocking Mountaintop Studios for the closure on social media.
The controversy began when FragPunk posted a mocking image on X (formerly Twitter), making fun of Mountaintop’s sudden shutdown as the studio announced its closure earlier this week, mentioning that its major title, Spectre Divide, couldn’t generate enough revenue to support its development despite an initial peak of 400,000 players across al platforms and a peak concurrent player count on Steam of of 30,971.
The response from FragPunk to the Mountaintop Studios’ farewell letter has sparked a wave of outrage, including Mountaintop’s senior LiveOps producer Marcus Schubert’s reaction.
Schubert responded on LinkedIn, calling FragPunk’s actions “disgusting” and condemning the lack of professionalism shown.
Over nine hours after the insulting comment, FragPunk issued an apology and got an offer from Marcus Schubert, saying that he is ready to recommend good people to run FragPunk’s communications.
This apology from FragPunk comes on the heels of news that just days prior, NetEase failed to deliver a planned simultaneous release of FragPunk on consoles and PC, delaying PS5 and Xbox Series X|S game versions for an unknown period.
