Key points
  1. Nvidia officially launches RTX Remix with DLSS 4 and RTX Neural Shaders.
  2. Half-Life 2 RTX demo will be available for free on Steam for owners of the classic Half-Life 2 starting March 18, 2025.
  3. RTX Remix also brings RTX Skin and Volumetrics features.

Nvidia’s RTX Remix is officially leaving the beta phase. The modding tool is now available with a suite of new features, integration of DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation and RTX Neural Shaders.

RTX Remix was in the beta phase for a year and has been tested by over 30,000 modders during that period. Now, it is released with key upgrades such as:

  • DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation, a new version of DLSS, multiplies performance by up to 10x in 4K on the GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs. With Multi Frame Generation, the tool can enhance frame rates while maintaining ultra-high visual fidelity.
  • RTX Neural Radiance Cache, Nvidia’s new neural shader technology, improves ray-traced indirect lighting, delivering more accurate and responsive lighting effects, all while enhancing performance.
  • RTX Skin adds subsurface scattering to character models, creating a more lifelike appearance.
  • RTX Volumetrics adds light shafts and particle effects that enhance the atmosphere in remastered levels.

On top of that, the update features a more intuitive modding interface, with the introduction of the RTX Remix Stage Manager, which streamlines the process of editing and refining mods.

To demonstrate RTX Remix’s potential, NVIDIA has partnered with Orbifold Studios to release a demo of Half-Life 2 RTX. Starting March 18th, players who own the classic Half-Life 2 on Steam can download a free demo that includes remastered levels from Ravenholm and Nova Prospekt, showcasing the visual upgrades made possible with the new tool. The Half-Life 2 RTX project is a complete overhaul, with every texture, model, and level being remade to take full advantage of RTX Remix’s capabilities. While the demo is a preview, it already includes full ray-traced lighting, AI-enhanced textures, and stunning volumetric effects, all powered by the new technologies integrated into the tool.

Launched at the end of January, Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards and DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation initially supported 75 games and apps. As of now the release of RTX Remix, Nvidia announced that the number has grown to over 100 games with DLSS Multi Frame Generation support.
