GTA V Enhanced Becomes the Worst-Rated GTA on Steam

|
- GTA V Enhanced has become the worst-rated game in the franchise on Steam, currently with 46.3% positive reviews.
- The backlash stems mainly from issues with the account migration feature and the removal of online chat.
- As of February 2025, Grand Theft Auto V has sold over 210 million copies worldwide.
Grand Theft Auto V’s Enhanced version, has taken a plunge in player reviews since its recent release on Steam on March 4, 2025.
As of the time of writing, the game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games has amassed 22,111 reviews, with about half of them (10,248) leaning negative.
The most significant complaints have centered around the game’s account migration feature. Players who have invested years and hundreds of hours into GTA Online are finding the migration process hit-or-miss.
But the migration issue isn’t the only complaint. Rockstar also removed online chat functionality, a move that has dampened the social aspect of the game. The positive reviews mainly praise the upgraded visuals and the smoother performance, which resolves previous frame-rate issues.
A number of players have also voiced their belief that the Enhanced version should have simply been an update to the original GTA V rather than a completely new release.
The backlash against Grand Theft Auto V’s Enhanced Edition is not the first time a GTA re-release has faced widespread criticism. In November 2021, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition launched to overwhelmingly negative reception due to numerous bugs, graphical downgrades, and controversial design changes. The PC version, in particular, was hit hard, becoming one of the worst-rated releases on the platform. Gamers were disappointed that what was supposed to be a modern facelift instead introduced a host of new problems, a pattern that now seems to be repeating with GTA 5’s latest re-release.
As of February 2025, Grand Theft Auto V has sold over 210 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling video games of all time and generating approximately $8.6 billion in revenue since its release in 2013.
