The game, which was originally released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System as the first entry in the Chrono series in 1995, was developed by a trio of game designers named the “Dream Team” by Square Enix. It included Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of Square’s Final Fantasy series; Yuji Horii, creator of Enix’s Dragon Quest series; and Akira Toriyama, character designer of Dragon Quest and author of the Dragon Ball manga series.
On top of all of the above mentioned, Takashi Tokita, the lead designer of Final Fantasy IV and the director of Live A Live, Parasite Eve, co-directed the game and co-wrote the scenario with Masato Kato, Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy VII writer. Besides all that, Kazuhiko Aoki, who designed many of the Final Fantasy series titles, produced the game.
Chrono Trigger’s soundtrack secured a place on the List of video game soundtracks considered the best. It was created by Yasunori Mitsuda, known for his work on such franchises as Chrono, Xeno and Shadow Hearts, with assistance from Final Fantasy’s veteran composer Nobuo Uematsu.
Currently, Chrono Trigger is available on Steam, iOS, and Android, while physical versions can still be found for the Super Nintendo, PlayStation 1, and Nintendo DS. The game also secures a place on the List of video games considered the best.
