- Split Fiction becomes EA’s second-biggest launch on Steam with 259,003 peak concurrent players, behind only EA’s Apex Legends.
- The game has garnered the highest critical reviews among EA titles since Mass Effect 3 in 2012.
- Split Fiction brings a Friend’s Pass system when only one license is required for two players to join the game.
Split Fiction peaked at a concurrent player count of 259,003 on Steam by March 9, 2025. Just three days after its release, the game became the second-largest EA-published game on the platform, surpassing Battlefield V and FIFA 23, which had peak concurrent player counts of 116,104 and 110,878, respectively.
These numbers put Split Fiction behind only Apex Legends, EA’s popular, free-to-play battle royale, which holds the record at 624,473 concurrent players as of the time of writing.
Developed by Hazelight Studios, Split Fiction’s launch is not only a remarkable achievement in player numbers but also in critical reception. The game has earned good reviews, including a perfect 10/10 score from GameSpot and a Metacritic score of 91, becoming EA’s first game to achieve a 90+ rating in over a decade after Mass Effect 3 in 2012.
On top of that, the game brings a new Friend’s Pass system, which allows a player who owns a physical or digital copy of Split Fiction to invite anyone to join for free using an included Friend’s Pass.
It is worth noting that, according to Josef Fares, the founder of Hazelight Studios, Split Fiction’s budget was double that of the developer’s previous title, It Takes Two, which sold 23 million copies globally. Split Fiction has great chances to reach the achievements of its predecessor as it has sold 1 million units in its first 48 hours.
