Kojima Productions has announced that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will launch on June 26, 2025. The announcement came during Sony’s SXSW 2025 presentation, alongside the premiere of a new trailer.

New Kojima’s game will launch exclusively on PlayStation 5, with a PC version expected at a later date, following the studio’s previous release pattern.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach expands on the original game’s mechanics with a larger world, new traversal tools, and enhanced environmental interactions. One of its key features is real-time terrain changes, where floods, forest fires, and earthquakes dynamically alter the landscape, impacting structures and gameplay. The sequel also introduces a refined movement system, new vehicles, and a deeper focus on player-driven world-building. While details on the narrative remain scarce, Kojima Productions has promised a “more emotional and complex” story that builds upon the themes of connection and isolation explored in the first game.

Death Stranding, developed by Kojima Productions, was first released on November 8, 2019, for PlayStation 4, followed by a PC release on July 14, 2020. An enhanced version, Death Stranding: Director’s Cut, was subsequently launched for PlayStation 5 on September 24, 2021, and for Windows on March 30, 2022. The Xbox Series X/S version of Death Stranding: Director’s Cut was released on November 7, 2024.

The game received generally favorable reviews, with the PlayStation 4 version scoring 82/100 and the PC version 87/100 on Metacritic. In November 2022, cumulative sales across all platforms surpassed 10 million units.
