- According to a leaker, Call of Duty: Warzone 2 might be the last iteration of the game if Verdansk fails to retain players.
- Part of the rumor also mentions that the next Call of Duty game is being developed on “Dev Kits for the Next Xbox”.
- Another leaker has come out and said that the delay for Season 3 was obvious.
Recent rumors suggest that Activision’s popular battle royale title, Call of Duty: Warzone, may face significant changes depending on the success of its upcoming season. According to leaker TheGhostOfHope, if the reintroduction of the Verdansk map in the next season fails to retain current or returning players, plans for a potential Warzone 3 could be canceled. This leak has been quoted by numerous unofficial Call of Duty social media news accounts.
Following the delay of both Warzone and Black Ops 6’s third season, TheGhostOfHope took to Twitter to reveal some insider information regarding the next installment for the franchise, Modern Warfare IV. According to them, the next Call of Duty game won’t support old generation consoles and will have a traditional user interface.
Additionally, according to the leaker, the next mainline Call of Duty installment, speculated to be Modern Warfare IV slated for a 2026 release, is under development without support for previous-generation consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Notably, development is reportedly occurring on dev kits for Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox console, which implies that Microsoft already has plans for the next generation of Xbox.
Phil Spencer has gone on record to say that Xbox is done trying to convert players from other platforms to Xbox. But if Xbox is releasing their games on all platforms while still producing consoles, it might result in low sales of the latter as there’s no incentive for players to buy the console over the ones they currently own.
Call of Duty’s season 3 delay resulted in its release being pushed back to April 3, giving developers two more weeks to flesh out the next update.
