- Rockstar Games has acquired Video Games Deluxe, renaming it into Rockstar Australia.
- The Sydney-based studio already worked with Rockstar, delivering the mobile port of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy, The Definitive Edition.
- The acquisition comes ahead of the GTA 6 release, set for autumn 2025.
Rockstar Games has acquired the Australian studio Video Games Deluxe, the successor of Brendan McNamara’s Team Bondi that developed L.A. Noire. The acquisition will see the Sydney-based developer rebranded as Rockstar Australia.
The news was shared via a press release on March 3, 2025, where Rockstar Games reported about officially making Video Games Deluxe a company’s Aussie subsidiary. The studio has already participated in Rockstar’s project as it delivered a recent mobile port of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy, The Definitive Edition and 2017 re-releases of L.A. Noire, L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files.
Video Games Deluxe was founded by Brendan McNamara, the creative producer behind L.A. Noire. The company was established following the closure of McNamara’s previous studio, Team Bondi, which struggled with a controversial development culture.
It is unclear yet what Rockstar Australia will be working on specifically, but it is worth noting that Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, recently narrowed down GTA 6’s release date to an autumn 2025 window.
