Nintendo released a trailer for the upcoming Pokémon Legends Z-A – a game slated to release on the Nintendo Switch in late 2025. No exact release date has been confirmed.
The new trailer introduced the game’s starters: Tepig, Totodile, and Chikorita. Out of the three, Tepig is the only starter that is not from Gen. III. The fire pig debuted in Gen. V – which is Pokémon Black and White.
As for the gameplay, it seems to be built off of Pokémon Legends Arceus’ same engine.
GameFreak has been exploring more interactive environments, as showcased by Scarlet and Violet’s terrain exploration options. This time around, players can parkour over and on buildings.

Mega-evolutions appear to be making a comeback as well – indicated by Mega-Lucario and Mega-Charizard’s reveal in the Legends Z-A trailer. Other mega-evolutions shown were Kangaskhan, Sableye, Absol, Gardevoir, Gyrados, Altaria, and Ampharos.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A trailer was revealed during Pokémon Presents, an event that aired on February 27, 2025. The presentation also revealed Pokémon Champions, a battle focused title releasing on the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.
