Pokémon Presents revealed a brand new Pokémon game for the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices: Pokémon Champions. The game appears to be purely battle-focused. The trailer mostly showcased cinematic animations that do not reflect in-game presentation.

No release date was revealed – the trailer ends by stating “Now in Development.” The game will have ranked, casual, and private battle modes. According to the Nintendo Switch Eshop, Champions will be compatible with Pokémon HOME. This means players “can also team up with certain Pokémon brought over from past Pokémon series games and Pokémon GO.”
Not all Pokémon will be available to transfer over. Pokémon states “the Pokémon you’ll be able to transfer to Pokémon Champions via Pokémon HOME are limited to Pokémon that can appear in Pokémon Champions.”
Cross-platform play is expected for the title, as it launches on both Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. This release trend is reminiscent of Pokémon Unite, which also supports cross platform play.
The last turn-based Pokémon game that prioritized battling was Pokémon Revolution. Revolution was a spiritual successor to the immensely popular Pokémon Stadium – a game that was praised for its intense battle mechanics.
