Ratatan, the Spiritual Successor of Patapon, Receives a New Trailer

|
- Ratatan developers released a new Gameplay trailer showcasing how far the project has come.
- Ratatan is the spiritual successor of Patapon, a rhythm action game for the PSP.
- The game is set to release in April 2025. There’s no specific date given as of writing.
Ratatan received its first official gameplay trailer during IGN Fan Fest. The game is the spiritual successor of the rhythm action game, Patapon, and is being made by the original developers of the series.
The game looks very familiar for people who have played the Patapon series. Players control a Ratatan that holds an instrument and uses it to command little creatures that follow them. Just like in Patapon, players will be required to push specific buttons in rhythm to be able to command their little creatures.
Ratatan will also feature four-player online co-op according to the description, however the trailer did not show the capability. Roguelike seems to be the main sub-genre of the game, but not much is revealed as to how the game will play like a roguelike. The trailer shows a few seconds of the player being offered cards to add to their arsenal but it doesn’t show any mechanics similar to other roguelikes in the market currently.
The developers behind Ratatan are also the minds behind the Patapon series. The game was fully funded within the first hour of its Kickstarter going up. As of writing, the game has received more than $1.4 million which is a hundred thousand away from its secret final goal that adds a Dark Ratatan Pets into the backers games.
The game is set to release in April 2025 for the Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4 & 5, and the Nintendo Switch. The game will also be released on the PC through Steam.
